Privacy Policy

Tongues AI ("we", "our", or "the app") is an AI voice studio that records, transcribes, translates, and summarizes audio. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Data We Collect

Audio recordings: Captured via your device microphone when you explicitly start a recording. Audio is sent to our API (Cloudflare Workers AI) for transcription and translation, and is not stored on our servers after processing.
Transcriptions and translations: The text output is stored locally on your device (IndexedDB). We do not store your transcriptions on remote servers unless you use Backup & Restore, which saves an encrypted export file you control.
Document scans: When you use Scan & Explain, the document image you photograph or upload is sent to our cloud AI provider (Cloudflare Workers AI) to extract the text and generate a plain-language explanation. The image is processed in transit and is not stored on our servers; the resulting text and explanation are stored locally on your device.
Premium voice audio (paid plans): If you are a paid subscriber and choose a premium AI voice for spoken translation, the translated text (not your recordings) is sent to a third-party voice provider (ElevenLabs) to generate speech audio. Generated audio clips may be cached server-side for a limited period (currently up to 30 days), keyed only by a hash of the text content, with no name, email, or other identity attached.
Usage data: We collect usage counters (e.g., number of transcriptions per day), keyed by IP address, to enforce free-tier limits and improve the service. These counters expire automatically and are not linked to your recordings or transcripts.
Consent, account & purchase records: When you accept our Terms (e-signature), join the affiliate program, or purchase a plan, we durably store the information needed to administer and evidence it — your name, email address, date/time, IP address, browser user-agent, and which acknowledgments you accepted. Consent records are retained as a legal record of acceptance.

2. Microphone Access

We request microphone access only when you tap "Record." The orange recording indicator is visible whenever the microphone is active. We never record audio in the background without your knowledge.

3. Third-Party Services

Audio, text, and document-image processing (transcription, translation, AI summaries, and document explanation) is performed by Cloudflare Workers AI (cloudflare.com). Data is transmitted securely over HTTPS and processed in-flight; Cloudflare does not persist your audio or document images. Please review Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

For paid subscribers who select a premium AI voice, spoken-audio generation is performed by ElevenLabs (elevenlabs.io): the translated text is sent to ElevenLabs to synthesize speech, and the resulting audio may be cached server-side for up to 30 days keyed by a content hash, without your identity. Please review ElevenLabs' Privacy Policy. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your payment-card details. Trial-reminder and consent-confirmation emails are delivered through Resend.

4. Data Storage

All recordings, transcriptions, folders, and documents are stored on your device using the browser's IndexedDB. Uninstalling the app or clearing browser data removes this data.

5. Children's Privacy

Tongues AI is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

6. Your Rights

Your recordings and transcripts live on your device, so you can delete them at any time by clearing app data or using the in-app Delete options. For the consent, account, and purchase records we store (see Section 1), or any other privacy request (access, correction, deletion where legally permitted), contact us at [email protected]. Note: consent records may be retained where we have a legal basis to keep evidence of acceptance.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date above will reflect any changes. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
